The newly instituted Melvin “Santiago’s Law” makes stronger the “Security Office Registration Act,” or SORA. Previously, security guards employed by New Jersey security guard companies were strictly regulated by the Division of State Police. Now, all ARMED officers must recertify their SORA credentials with the new Armed SORA License. They are also required to have SECURITY on the back of all uniforms, the SORA designation on their badges and have a level 3 retention gun holster. Recertification requires eight hours of training.
Hometown Security’s armed security guards have all undergone the additional hours of training and have received their upgraded SORA licenses.
